Persell Anthony Hodge, a man of faither and a devoted lover of family, passed away peacefully on Saturday, June 6, 2026.
Persell was born on January 26, 1961, in Washington, D.C., to the late Persell Hodge and Mattie Hodge. At an early age, his parents and family relocated to King George, Virginia, where he was baptized at Little Ark Baptist Church and later graduated from King George High School.
Throughout his life, Persell dedicated his career to serving and protecting others. He proudly serviced recently as a Physical Security Officer (PSO) with the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA) in Arlington, Virginia. He also served as a Deputy Sheriff with the King George Sheriff's Department. Over the course of his career, Persell was employed by several security firms where he earned the respect of his colleagues with whom he formed lasting friendships. His strong work ethic, sense of responsibility, and quiet determination were admired by all who knew him.
Persell was a man of strong character and unwavering integrity. Even though he had quiet persona, his actions consistently reflected his love, loyalty, and commitment. These positive lifelong attributes included a special bond with his lifelong friend, Maureen Fountain.
He was known for his frugal nature, earning the affectionate title of "Coupon King" among friends and family. In fact, his niece and goddaughter, Micah Hodge, often commented on the topic of thriftiness with her favorite saying, "If it's not free, it's not for me." Persell embraced a simple and minimalistic lifestyle and found joy in old-school music, fishing, and maintaining daily routines.
He leaves to cherish his memory a devoted family including his sisters, Deloris Henderson of King George, Virginia; Vera Hodge (Claudine) of District Heights, Maryland; Madeline Yates of Chesterfield, Virginia; and Caroline Haynes of King George, Virginia; and his brother, Michael Hodge (Valerie) of Hanover, Virginia.
He also leaves behind a loving host of nieces and nephews: Jason Henderson of Fredericksburg, Virginia; Roger Yates (Veronica) of Chesapeake, Virginia; Matthew Haynes of King George, Virginia; Antoinette Hodge of District Heights, Maryland: Lynette Robinson of District Heights, Maryland; Michelle Tyree (Lenwood) of Chesterfield, Virginia; Monique Hayes of Westmoreland, Virginia; and his niece and goddaughter, Micah Hodge, who attends Virginia Tech. He also leaves to cherish his memory twelve great-nephews and eleven great-nieces, along with a host of extended family members and friends.
Persell Anthony Hodge's life was a testament to faith, hard work, simplicity, and devotion to family. He leaves to cherish memories and a legacy of integrity, responsibility, and love that will continue to inspire all who were blessing to know him.
