I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith”. 2 Timothy 4:7
Malchia Johnson was born to the late Joe and Evelyn Johnson on April 13, 1933, in Essex County, VA. He peacefully departed from his earthly life on Thursday, May 22, 2025, at his residence.
Malchia received his education through the Essex County Public School system. He was baptized at an early age and became a member of Mount Olive Baptist Church, Hustle, VA. He attended church regularly until his health began to decline.
He worked for Washington Gas & Light Company for 35 years until he retired in 1995.
Malchia married Gladys Robinson, on May 6, 1954. From this union they were blessed with four children and many years of memories.
In his later years, he enjoyed watching western shows, baseball, and supporting his beloved Washington Redskins (now known as the Commanders). He also had a passion for fishing. His grandchildren and great-grandchildren were a source of immense joy and pride for him.
Malchia was predeceased by his devoted wife Gladys, his parents: Joe and Evelyn Johnson; his siblings: Joseph Johnson, William Henry Johnson; Edward Johnson, Estelle J. Coleman, Ethel J. Robinson; and his son in-law: James L Fortune Sr.
Malchia leaves to cherish her memory: two daughters: Deaconess Doris Fortune of Hustle, VA; Deaconess Patricia Johnson of Bowling Green VA; two sons: Malchia Johnson, Jr. (Delphine) of Loretto Virginia and David Johnson of Bowling Green, VA; nine grandchildren: Nathaniel Fortune (Doreen), Evangelist Deborah Taylor (Tony), James Fortune, Jr. (Nicole), Lionel Johnson (Renee), Shana Banks (Tony), Dexter Johnson (Themia), Milton Johnson (Elexis), Diandra Hunter, Ebony Winston (Chris); 32 great grandchildren, 6 great-great grandchildren, and two sister-in-laws: Helen Morgan, Emma Childs; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
I am at peace, my souls at rest. There is no need for tears
For with your love, I was so blessed for all those many years.
