Julia Ann Gaines

Julia Ann Gaines was called to her heavenly home on Thursday, August 21, 2025 from Beaufort Rehabilitation Center located in Richmond, Virginia. She was born on October 25, 1937 to the late Airy Alice Pratt and Freebi Motley. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her siblings Alice Louise Blagmon and Mary Susan Garnett. Julia’s education started in Essex County Public School System located in Tappahannock, Virginia. After leaving school, she married the late Charles Gaines. No children were born to this union; however, she was a wonderful aunt.

She always showed her nieces and nephews much love and affection throughout her life. She was a giving person lending a helping hand whenever she could. Throughout the community, Julia worked at various jobs enjoying the interaction with people.

Julia is survived by one sibling, Swindell Chase. She was blessed with a host of nieces and nephews: Shirley Johnson, the late Ella Mae Blagmon, Cynthia Harvey, Katherine Blagmon Criss (Phil), Rose Anderson, Ralph Blagmon, Anthony Blagmon, and William Blagmon Jr. She is also survived by a sister-in-law Christine Gaines and a brother-in-law Nathan Gaines (Gloria) as well as a host of other loved ones and friends.
