James L. Pollard, Sr. was born in Baltimore, MD to the late James A. and Susie Hill-Pollard on May 13, 1939. He transitioned from this earthly life to eternity on December 8, 2025. He was the eldest of five children. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his daughter Karen Eloise, his only brother Waverly and his sister Verna Greene.
James was employed by his father for six years at his logging company before transitioning to Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT). He worked there as a landscaper until he retired in 2002.
On March 18, 1961, James made the second-best decision of his life and married Brancis J. Fortune of Sparta. Six children were born to this union. James and Brancis were married for 53 years before her passing.
In 1990, James accepted the Lord as his personal Savior, making the best decision of his life. He joined the True Deliverance Church of our Lord Jesus Christ of the Apostolic Faith, Inc., pastored by Elder James F. Dudley. He served as a deacon and Sunday School Superintendent until his health began to fail.
James leaves to cherish his memory his children: Maria Harrell of North Chesterfield, James Pollard, Jr. (Ernestine) of Ruther Glen, Sandra Sawyer (Darvl “Big Boy”) of Ruther Glen, Regina Pollard of Ruther Glen, Darrell Pollard (LeShawn) of Woodford, Cheryl Thomas (Wilbur “Duncan”) of Ruther Glen, and Juwon Holmes (Justin) of Henrico; twelve grandchildren; eleven great grandchildren; two sisters: Joan Johnson of Bowie, MD and Teresa King (Isaac the III) of King and Queen; three sisters-in-law, Mary Williams (John) of Milford, Virginia Berry of Sparta, and Theola Fortune of Sparta; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
