Gloria Dean Gaines

Gloria Dean Gaines, lovingly known as “Glo,” was quietly called home to be with the Lord on Saturday, February 28, 2026, at Bon Secours Memorial Regional Hospital in Mechanicsville, Virginia. She was born in King and Queen County, Virginia, as the eighth child to the late William and Rosie Baylor.

At an early age, she accepted Christ and joined First Mt. Olive Baptist Church, where she faithfully served as a member of the choir for many years. Her love for worship and music remained a constant throughout her life. She loved the song, “One Day at a Time.”

Glo attended King and Queen County Public Schools and graduated as a member of Central High School’s Class of 1973. Following graduation, she began her career at Thalhimers Department Store in Richmond, Virginia, where she dedicated 19 years of service. She later continued her career with the Department of Motor Vehicles, retiring after 27 years of service. She was known for her kindness, warmth, and welcoming spirit. Customers often recognized her and were happy to see a familiar face, frequently stopping to speak whenever they saw her out. She left a lasting impression on all who had the pleasure of working with her.

On May 31, 1986, Glo was joined in holy matrimony to Nathan Gaines. Their loving union spanned 40 beautiful years. She was a devoted wife, a loving mother, a cherished grandmother, and a dear friend to many. As they built their life together, she became a member of Antioch Baptist Church, where she once again shared her gift of song as a member of the gospel choir.

She leaves to cherish fond memories of her loving and caring spirit, her devoted husband, Nathan Gaines of Hustle, VA, two children, Victoria Baylor (Ramarcus) of Midlothian, VA, Nathan Adam Gaines, Jr. (Kim) of Alexandria, VA, two grandchildren, Noah and Naomi Baylor of Midlothian, VA, two sisters Thelma Johnson and Joan Hill both of St. Stephens Church, VA, one brother Marvin Baylor of Richmond, VA, and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends.
