Geraldine Rollins was born on February 19, 1959, in Hustle, Virginia, to Charles and Gladys Rollins. The youngest of seven children, Geraldine was affectionately known as “Jay Bird”. As a child, she especially enjoyed playing with her older sisters, Ruth and Shirley, and treasured the time spent with her older brother and sisters when they returned home to visit. Her early years were also rooted in faith and family, attending Antioch Baptist Church, the Rollins family’s home church.
Geraldine was educated in Essex County, Virginia, and graduated from Essex High School. An accomplished student, she completed high school a year early in 1976. During high school years, Geraldine was a member of the Future Business Leaders of America, and English was her favorite subject.
Following high school, Geraldine attended Delaware State University, where she majored in Finance. She went on to build a career in accounting, working for various companies throughout her professional life.
Geraldine was vibrant, fun-loving, and full of life, quickly earning her place as the family’s “Fun Aunt.” She loved creating experiences and memories for her nieces and nephews. Among those treasured memories were family trips she organized for all six siblings, and sixteen nieces and nephews to Ocean City, Maryland, Luray Caverns, Virginia, Poconos, Pennsylvania, and Walt Disney World in Florida. Geraldine also took her parents to the Bahamas. These adventures reflect her generous spirit and the joy she found in bringing her family together.
Family remained an important part of Geraldine’s life. She returned to Tappahannock, Virginia, to help care for her aging parents and to lend her love and support in caring for her nephew, Timothy. Her willingness to return home during a time when her family needed her reflected the deep devotion for those she loved.
In time, Geraldine made Minneapolis, Minnesota, her home. There, she embraced life in the North, even the snow, and found joy in reading, spending time with friends, and simply enjoying the life and community she had created for herself.
Throughout her life, Geraldine carried with her the importance of family, friendship, laughter, and love. From her childhood in Hustle, to the life she built in Minneapolis, she left behind memories that will continue to bring smiles to those who knew and loved her.On August 24, 2026, Geraldine was peacefully called home to be with the Lord.
Geraldine was preceded in death by her father, Charles David Rollins; mother, Gladys Sayles Rollins; brother James Rollins; sister Rebecca Taylor; niece, Khadijah Vaughan; and brother-in-law Joseph Gardner, III and James Clark Sr.; She leaves to cherish her loving memories: four sisters Lillian Clark of Temple Hills MD; Esther Jeter of Waldorf, MD; Shirley Patterson (John) of Accokeek, MD; Ruth Gardner of Oxon Hill, MD; sister-in-law, Marta Rollins of Tulum Mexico; and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
