Obituary

Deacon Benjamin “Berry” Waddy born on November 2, 1930, in Louisa County, Virginia. He departed this life for his heavenly reward on April 29, 2026 at the VA Hospital in Richmond, Virginia. Ben was the 12th child and 7th son of Charlie and Gustavia Green Waddy.

Ben served in the Army for several years. After the Army, he worked for the Marriott Corporation for 30 years. He was a hardworking man. He maintained a part-time job at the Langley Park Shopping Center for over 40 years. After retirement, he couldn’t stay still and he, along with his partners, created the BASE Construction Company. He also worked part-time in Fredericksburg, Virginia and for the King George Fire Department, as well as the Police Department.

He accepted the Lord at an early age, and served as a Deacon at Union Bethel Baptist Church and then Mt. Carmel Baptist Church.

Ben was also a mentor and friend to many of his children’s childhood friends, as well as the community kids. Ben was always a quiet, calm and humble man. A man of very few words, but a whole lot of action. He always meant what he said, and said what he meant. He was always a phone call away, and he came to anyone’s aid whenever needed.

He was preceded in death by his son Kevin A. Waddy and daughter Darlene Y. Waddy.

Benjamin Waddy leaves to cherish his memory his beloved wife of 49 years Shirley Waddy, his children and grandchildren. His children are: Benjamin Berry Waddy (Hilda), Karen Michelle Waddy-Pulliam (Ernest), Tamara C. Sager (Jeffrey), Anethia Manns (Gregory) and Daequan Waddy. Ben’s grandchildren are: Anthony (Tony) Waddy, Mia Manns, Landon Waddy and Bentley Waddy. His special and devoted friend who was like a son to him Duane Wentzel.
