Antonette Holmes-Pompey was born to the late Herbert and Estelle Holmes on December 23, 1947 in Essex County, VA. God called her home to be with Him on February 6, 2026 at the VCU Hospital in Tappahannock, VA. She was preceded in death by her three sisters: Mary Holmes, Gladys Berry and Susie Lewis; four brothers: Herbert Jr., Charles, Nathan and her twin Andrew Holmes.
Antonette attended public schools in Essex County and graduated from Essex High School in 1966. After graduating, she attended the Smithfield Massey Business School in Richmond, VA. She was employed at Dominion Power Company in Richmond, VA retiring after 20 years of employment. Sometime after retirement, she returned home to Hustle, VA.
At an early age, Antonette accepted Christ and was baptized at Mt. Olive Baptist Church in Hustle, VA. After returning to her home church, she served on the Trustee Board. She was a faithful and devoted member until her health began to diminish.
Antonette became a member of the Order of Eastern Star participating in many of their events. She loved shopping and traveling especially with her sister Catherine (Susie). She found much pleasure in planning Holiday Dinners. Her big events were Easter and Christmas when the goodies really came out, baking pound cakes, gingerbread and sweet potato pies. So Good!
Left to cherish wonderful memories of Antonette are her brother Norman Holmes, two sisters-in-law Vernell Holmes and Jean Holmes, devoted nephew and nieces who were her caregivers: Anthony Lewis, Felicia Holmes and Jackie Hanna. Loving memories are also treasured by a host of other nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. Standby friends include Veronica Gibson, Rita Coghill, Martha Robinson, Rosa Stewart, Brenda Washington-Allen, Lucille Fitzgerald and Diane Goode.
