Abraham L. Pryror

Abraham Lincoln Pryor transitioned to glory on Tuesday, July 1, 2025 from Mary Washington Hospital after a short illness.

Abraham, the third of eight children, was born on Wednesday, November 25, 1936, to the late James Daniel and Sallie Elizabeth Pryor in Owens, VA. At the tender age of 9, Abraham's mother, Sallie, passed away, thrusting him into the role of primary caregiver for his four younger siblings. This early display of sacrifice, service, and hard work became the guiding force that shaped his life and led him to become a pillar of strength and love for his family.

Abraham, affectionately known as Ham, accepted Christ and was baptized at a young age at Little Ark Baptist Church, a faith community with which he remained throughout his entire life. His dedication to his church was mirrored in his professional life, where he worked for Blake Construction in Washington, DC for nearly 40 years. He was a member of King George Masonic Lodge #314.

Beyond his work, Abraham was known for his love of fishing and his gift for making delicious fried potatoes and onions. His caring nature and delightful sense of humor brought joy to all who knew him.

Abraham was predeceased by his son Abraham Pryor Jr. and two siblings: Doris Sullivan and Angelo Pryor. He is survived by his wife, Ruth; sons, James Pryor and Samuel Pryor; and daughters Dana Sorrell (Greensboro, NC), Sonya Middleton (Fredericksburg, VA), Amy Shorter (Waldorf, MD), and Tandy Banks (Fredericksburg, VA). He is also survived by four siblings: Joseph Warren Pryor (Cherry Hill, NJ), Sallie Hush (Duluth, GA), Madonna P Johnson (Hebron, MD), and Rosa Lee Hicks (Macungie, PA). Also cherishing his memory is brother-in-law, Willie Parker (Delores) (Williamsburg), two sisters-in law: Vern Parker (Williamsburg) and Patricia Pryor (Delaware), one Goddaughter, and a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nephews, and nieces.

We will miss his love, humor, and joy more than words can express; but his love will live on in our hearts forever.
